COLUMBUS -- Amerillis Brookshire, 65, of Columbus, died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Maude Norton Memorial Hospital emergency room following a sudden illness.

She was born April 21, 1934, near Melrose, to Richard B. and Esther Standlee Brookshire.

She was a graduate of Columbus High School, Parsons Junior College and Fort Scott Junior College. She also attended Pittsburg State University.

She worked at the Columbus Garment Factory for 16 years. She also worked for the State of Kansas Census Bureau at Pittsburg from 1965 until she retired in 1985.

She and her brother owned and operated a produce farm at her home for many years.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, the Heartland Doll Club at Joplin, Mo., the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Rebeccas.

Survivors include several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bob, on Sept. 8, 1997.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Melrose Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating. Jack Eagleson will serve as eulogist.

Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery southwest of Columbus.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.
