Mary Emeline Burke, 90, long time resident of Annapolis, MD died August 29, 2023 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living, where she was a resident, after a long illness.

Mary was born July 15, 1933 in Meadowview, Virginia to the late James Dewey and Lula Mae Woodward.

After graduation from high school she worked at Raytheon in Bristol, TN until she relocated to Annapolis with her husband, Edward Burke and her son, James Michael Hurley.

Mary had a long and successful career with Bechtel Corporation, receiving many awards and advancements during her time with them. Mary continued working with Oceaneering International in Hanover, MD. Where she worked until her late 70's, Mary enjoyed knowing and participating in their exciting work under the sea, all over the world.

Mary spent most of her adult life in Annapolis, MD. She and her husband, Ed, loved the Naval Academy. They opened their home and their hearts to numerous Midshipmen. Nothing gave Mary more joy than feeding "her" Midshipmen after a cold Saturday afternoon of rooting for Navy football. As these Midshipmen graduated and started their own families they remained close to Mary, and simply became part of her extended family. Mary will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her Navy family. She was also an avid gardener, and loved crocheting. Numerous family members have been lucky enough to receive of one of her Afghans.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Edward Burke, and her sisters Virginia Harrington, Helen Johnston, and Geneva Miller also her nephews Bill Jackson, Larry Jackson, CD Miller, and Ernie Miller.

Mary is survived by her son, James Michael Hurley and Barbara Cahall of Verdi, NV. Her Grandson, Dustin Hurley, his wife Kristen, and great grandchildren, Mahlon, Cameron, and Vava Hurley of Truckee CA. Her Granddaughter Krista Hurley Saloom, her husband Justin, and great grandchildren Maximus, and Roman Saloom of Frederick MD. Her niece's, Dreama Wilkinson, Janie McGlocklin, Jackie Miller, and Shelia Warren. Her nephew's David Miller, Jeffery Miller, Jimmy and Cathy Johnston, and Curt and Marylin Jackson. Also, longtime friends Duane Baker, Capt. USN (Ret.), his wife Margaret and their son Duane III.

Funeral services will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD on Thursday September 14th, 2023 promptly at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Frederick Hospice.
