Mr. Coddington Doyz was born Frank Lewis Witherup to parents Finley and Sarah Elizabeth Surrena Witherup. His mother died when he was 8 years old, and his father
by the time he was 20. Although early records indicate his birth place to be Pennsylvania, he retells his story after his name change including his birth place which he lists as Jamestown, New York. Also in this retelling (1950 S.S. application record), he gives his parents names as Schenley and Elizabeth Sarena Doyz.

He removed from eastern United States in his late 20's to make his home westward ultimately settling in Little Rock, Arkansas. He married Ellis Williams, a native of Kentucky, circa 1917. They were blessed with three daughters, Marguerite, Gwendolyn and Juanita. Mr. Doyz worked as a carpenter, then as a Power House Engineer for the Arkansas State Hospital in Little Rock. All records indicate he was a hard worker and devoted family man.

~Marriage Story,
Evening World-Herald (Omaha, NB), 20 Jul 1917, Pg 4

"A blue eyed Kentucky girl moving with the grace of a southerner called with a young man at the home of Rev. Charles W. Savidge Wednesday night. The man wrung the pastor's hand and both he and his fair companion began an outpouring of thanks. The minister somewhat abashed hesitated apparently awaiting an explanation. Then came the story.

Several months ago Coddington Doyz of Fergus Falls, Minn., hearing of the Omaha preacher's record as Cupid's agent, wrote asking for the name of some young woman. A similar request had been received from Miss Ellis Williams a school teacher of Dry Ridge, Ky., and soon letters from Minnesota to Kentucky and vice versa were no unusual thing.

Finally came one of Cupid's own dictation and a few minutes after his reply arrived, Coddington was on the fastest train in the general direction of the south. Following the marriage they paid a visit to Omaha before going to Yankton, S.D. to live. Coddington is an attache of a hospital there."
