Edithe L. Berninger, 87, of Delphi, died at 5:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at St. Mary Healthcare in Lafayette where she had been a resident since January 2008. She was born March 17, 1920, in Rush County, to the late Orville G. and Mabel V. Linville Leisure, and was a 1938 graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School. Her marriage was to Beverly B. Berninger on Dec. 13, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was employed as a corporation secretary with the Delphi Community School Corp. from 1961 to 1985.
Mrs. Berninger was a member of Kappa Sigma and Psi Iota Xi sororities, Order of the Eastern Star, Home Economics clubs, Carroll County Board of Realtors and the Indiana Association of Educational Secretaries. Her hobbies included quilting and playing bridge.
Surviving are a daughter, Alice Hoover (husband: Richard) of Newburgh; and two sons, H. Evan Berninger (wife: Jane) of Aiken, S.C., and David L. Berninger (wife: Pam) of Carmel.
Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Leisure and an infant brother.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. Service 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the funeral home, the Rev. Andy Paris officiating.
