Sharon Jean Phares, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 31, 2023. She passed away unexpectedly at her home in Circleville.

She was born March 18, 1945 at Elkins and was the daughter of the late Ressie Carr and Thelma Jean Warner Carr. She was raised on the Hunting Ground near Spruce Knob, and graduated from Circleville High School in 1964.

On June 7, 1964, she married George R. Phares. They resided on the Phares' Farm and soon began their family. George and Sharon had five children: Luci Raines (husband Billy), Benjamin Phares (wife Rhiannon), Neil Phares (wife Marcie), Melinda Sherman (husband Britt) and Amy Phares (1972 -1999). They have nine grandchildren: Ashlee Ratcliffe, Courtnie Butler, Austin Phares, Tyler Phares, Hannah Kaplinger, Madison Phares, Landon Phares, Kathryn Phares, and Benson Phares; seven great-grandchildren: Laken, Kendall, Brynn, Reese, Avalyn, Kaycen, and one on the way. A brother, Bill Warner and his wife, Grace, also survive. She was predeceased by a sister, Jo.

Sharon was a woman of many talents. She worked as a custodian and cook for the school system, and loved the kids as her own. To her, farming was her life. Just the day before, she was gathering items to prepare to feed a calf. She cooked, gardened, and canned as if she was feeding an entire community, and she did. She grew items she wouldn't eat because she knew someone else loved it. If you came to visit, you left with your belly full. She had an incredible ability to make you feel like you were her favorite. Her selfless heart was always caring for someone or something else and she needed continuous reminders to care for herself. She never lost her faith and remained inspiring, constant, unchanged, and courageous her entire life. She invested her time and love into everyone's lives and was a faithful servant of God. She was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church.

Her husband of 54 years, George, preceded her in death on June 6, 2018.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, September 3, 2023 at North Fork Baptist Church, 20403 Mountaineer Drive, Riverton, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 4, 2023 with Pastor Mike Clements officiating.

Interment will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton. Hunter Kaplinger, Austin Phares, Tyler Phares, Brett Butler, Scott Ratcliffe and Wesley Judy will serve as her pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to North Fork Baptist Church, P. O. Box 46, Riverton, WV 26814.
