Tennessee enlisted in Company M of the 8th Tennessee Cavalry on August 27, 1863 and was given a disability discharge on August 4, 1864. He was later a member of S K N Patton GAR Post #26 Department of Tennessee. He married three times: 1) Louisa Jane Orr on November 10, 1853, 2)Rebecca Hammer on October 30, 1885 and 3) Amanda J Cox on October 9, 1912.

TENNESSEE ADAMS died Thursday. Aged resident of Johnson City passed away at the home of his son, Thomas Adams Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. He had been ill for several weeks and the end was expected by his relatives. Mr. Adams was born in the early part of the 19th century and had almost reached the century mark. He confessed religion and joined the Baptist church about 35 years ago and just recently moved his membership to Unaka Avenue Baptist church. Rev. Carroll of that church will have charge of the funeral.

His surviving children all live in Johnson City. They are: Mrs. Arthur Sneed, Mrs. Frank Fern, Tom, Jim, Sam and Henry Adams. Two sons and a daughter died some time ago. He is survived by 38 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren
