Thomas Bertrand


Thomas Bertrand, affectionately known as "WIMPY," has passed away on August 29, 2023, in his hometown of Iota. Born on December 24, 1936, in Iota, Thomas lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.


Thomas was a remarkable individual who achieved great academic success. He graduated as the Salutatorian of Iota High School in 1955. Following his education, Thomas bravely served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean Conflict. After his time in the military, he embarked on a fulfilling career in the oilfield industry until his retirement. Past Commander of the American Legion Post 371.


Outside of work, Thomas had many passions that brought him immense joy. He was an avid fisherman who found tranquility and contentment by the water's edge. His green thumb was also evident through his impressive gardening prowess. Thomas took great pride in cultivating vibrant flowers and fruitful vegetables. Cooking was another talent he possessed, delighting family and friends with his delicious culinary creations.

When he wasn't engrossed in his hobbies, Thomas delighted in tending to his meticulously manicured lawn. He would spend hours ensuring it looked perfect, taking satisfaction in its pristine appearance. Additionally, he was a talented musician who could enchant all those who listened with the harmonious melodies emanating from his cherished accordion.

Family meant the world to Thomas, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul Wellman and Bertha Dietz Bertrand, as well as his son Marcu Leger, brothers, Paul W. Bertrand, Jr., Burton "Butsy" Bertrand, Wayne "Coonie" Bertrand and Marcus "Booger" Bertrand and his fur baby, Beaucoup. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Leger Bertrand of Iota.

His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of two adoring sons: Joshua Glass of Crowley and Thomas "TA" Glass of Lafayette. Thomas also leaves behind caring sisters: Iona "Sissy" Lantz and her husband Fred of Iota, Nina "Coco" Bertrand of Iota, Marcha "Tina" Wallace and her husband Buddy of Evangeline, Cynthia "Cindy" Bouget and her husband Bobby of Branch.

In addition to his immediate family, Thomas leaves behind two adoring grandchildren, Scout Glass and his wife Raven and Kora Glass. His legacy is carried on by his two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ezra Glass. He also had a cherished dog companion named Beau Coup who brought him unconditional love and companionship.

Thomas was deeply loved by his extended family and dear friends, who will greatly miss his warm presence in their lives.

Visitation services to honor Thomas Bertrand will be held on August 31st, 2023, at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Iota. The visitation will commence at 1:00 PM and conclude at 9:00 PM. Another visitation will take place on September 1st, 2023, at the same location from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM with a Chapel service at 9:30 am. Following that, a burial service will be held at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings on September 1st, 2023. The burial ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM.

Thomas Bertrand's legacy is not only defined by his accomplishments but also by the love he shared with those around him. He lived a life filled with passion and touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and above all else, an inspiration.
