Andrew M. Amarante, 90, loving husband of 58 years of Lillian Morro Amarante of Hamden, passed away Sept. 3, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was born in New Haven on Aug. 14, 1922, the son of the late Matthew and Mary Zlotkowski Amarante and was a Hamden resident since 1970.

Andrew was employed by the Armstrong Rubber Co. as a quality control technician and later worked for Quinnipiac University before his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church and then St. Rita Church, and he enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.

Andrew was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, Lillian, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Cheryl (Frank) DeMatteis of Hamden, Andrea (Richard) Kaman of North Haven, Joseph (Susan) Amarante of Cheshire, Michael (Diane) Amarante of Wallingford and Paul Amarante of Bethany.

He was the brother of Helen Bassett, Ann Faulkner, Edward, Stanley and Joseph Amarante. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Amarante was predeceased by sisters, Grace Lavorgna and Marion Fragola and a brother, Matthew Amarante.

Relatives and friends may visit with his family today from 4-7 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whtiney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly at St. Rita Church Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.
