Daughter of Captain De Lancey Radcliffe Anderson, Royal Engineers, 2nd Hussars, and his wife, Adela Jane (Power) Anderson. Married Rev. Ewan George Fitzroy McPherson, BA, CMG, CBE, on November 24, 1902, at Westminster, England. They had two sons and two daughters. She trained as a nurse at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, England. She subsequently joined the Royal Army Nurse Service on April 20, 1891. Anderson went to South Africa and served in the Boer War at No. 1 General Hospital, Wynberg; No. 4 General Hospital, Mooi River; No. 16 General Hospital, Bloemfontein and, at No. 15 General Hospital, Elandsfontein. She returned to England on the "Bavarian", arriving back in Southampton on September 8, 1902. Marrying shortly thereafter Army Chaplin Macpherson. She was appointed to Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS) on February 17, 1903.
