Bertha N. Knappins, 86, of Hope, died Wednesday, July 18, in the Midland Hospital Center. Born in Gladwin on March 23, 1898, she made her home in Lakeland, Fla., for several years until moving to Hope with her nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Loree, about 2¼ years ago. In Florida, she was the secretary-treasurer of the Lakeland Light and Life Camp of the Free Methodist Church where she was a member.
The former Bertha Hockaday, she was married to Ora Knappins and he died in 1981.
Surviving are a brother, Albert of Midland; one sister; Mrs. Anna Loree of Hope; 2 step-sons, Edwin and Kenneth of New Port Richey;Fla.; and 2 step-daughters,: Margery Boyt of Wappapello, Mo. and Mary Lanier of South Haven.
Rites were held Saturday, July 21, at 1 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Gordon Evoy officiated and burial was in Ridge Cemetery, Gladwin. Gladwin County Record dated 8-1/1984 Column – 4 Page – 2.
