Charles Edward Wallace, age 88, resident of Bartlett, Tennessee and husband of Gayle Wheatley Wallace, departed this life Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.

Charles was born November 13, 1934 in Chester County, Tennessee, the son of the late Thomas Dewain Wallace and Audrey Ann Melton Wallace. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1953 and served his country in the Army National Guard as a Major, retiring after 27 years of service. Charles was employed as a data processing supervisor for Memphis Light, Gas & Water and retired in 1980.

Mr. Wallace was of the Southern Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church Fisherville. He was a Mason and a member of Magnolia Crappie Club of Mississippi. Charles was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed fishing, having participated in many fishing tournaments. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife, Gayle Wallace of Bartlett, TN; two daughters, Debbie Wallace of Bartlett, TN and Donna McLemore of Bartlett, TN; his sister, Jean Coady of Bartlett, TN; his brother-in-law, Lance Bailey of Jacks Creek, TN; his sister-in-law, Jean Wallace of Kingwood, TX; three grandchildren, Lisa Wallace of Bartlett, TN, Jana Filsinger (Jon) of Arlington, TN and Justin McLemore of Bartlett, TN; and two great-granddaughters, Isabel Filsinger and Claire Filsinger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lumpkins and Ann Bailey; two brothers, Harold Wallace and James Wallace; and his brother-in-law, Guy Coady.

A visitation for Mr. Wallace will be from 1 to 3 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Graveside Services will be at 3 P.M. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
