Mrs. Lydia S. Shakespeare, mother of Andrew J. Shakespeare and Gen. William Shakespeare, died January 29, 1895, Deceased was born in Beaver county, Pennsylvania, March 18, 1811. Her husband, John L. Shakespeare, died in this city in 1847. She had been a resident of this county since 1853 and lived in the house on west Cedar street, where she died since 1848. Funeral will be from the residence of her son, William Shakespeare, 420 west Cedar street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Deceased early in her life was a school teacher in Portage county, Ohio, in 1843, with her husband and three children she located in Yorkville, this county, and later went onto an unimproved farm in Richland township, and, later removed to the then village of Kalamazoo. She was a woman of indomitable energy and possessed of good judgment and retained her faculties to the last. After attending to her household duties, Monday evening, she went to her bed and awoke in another world. Her life was an unselfish one, devoted to her family and friends.
