Leonard was the son of Peter & Martha (Nye) Klosterman. He was born in Holland, but immigrated to the Kalamazoo area when he was about 38 years old. He was one of the first settlers in the area from Holland. He married Neeltje "Cornelia" Sandifort on February 24, 1843. Leonard lived to be 92 years old, and was in good health and spirits until the day he passed away. He was survived by a brother, three sons, a daughter, about 40 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
