Camille Noel Bear was born on 25 December 1853 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the Bear "family home on Rue Lafayette, one block from the Mississippi River," the son of Simon Bear and Suzanna/Susana (Hirsch) Bear. He served as the "Ship's Writer" on board the United States flagship /Pensacola/; as a Deputy Clerk in Ukiah, Mendocino County, California (1881); and was employed for a number of years as a clerk in Havana, Cuba. Mr. Bear was a published author, who also wrote about his family history.

He died, unmarried, on 2 February 1941 at Chicago, Illinois, aged eighty-seven years.
His parents and six siblings—Josephine (Bear) Edmonds, Seraphine (Bear) Solomon, Armand A. Bear, William B. "Willie" Bear, Virginia (Bear) Ulrich Berg, and Ophelia Bear—preceded him in death.
Interment took place on 5 February 1941 at "Jewish Oakridge" in Hillside, Illinois, under the direction of Dearborn Funeral Home.
