Martha Elizabeth Kanning Allen, 86, formerly of Laurens, widow of Berry Theodore Allen died April 5, 2008 at her daughters home in Gaffney.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Lee and Lillar Tumblin Kanning. Mrs. Allen was retired from JP Stevens Company, Watts Plant and from Lucas Ave. Baptist Church, where she was a member and Outreach Director for 20 Years.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Ann Allen Taylor and husband Ben of Gaffney; two brothers, Robert L. Kanning of Saluda and Ralph L. Kanning of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Ina Melle Mattison of Honea Path, also a granddaughter, Beth T. Lackey and husband Rob; one great grandchild, Rory Turner Lackey, and a special caregiver Pernice Smith.

Mrs. Allen was predeceased by a brother, Carson Kanning; two sisters, Laura Madison, and Amy Caldwell; and a grandson Ben E. Taylor, Jr.
