After his father returned from his serving in the Civil War George and his brother Bembry left Alabama to Florida about 1870 stopping off in Pine Level, Florida, where George W. Storter attend school and met his future wife.
After their marriage and birth of his first child the family moved to Everglades City, Florida where he followed his new trade of making tin cans to hold processed sugar at the same time he opened a trading post and store.
Later George and his brother Bembry moved their now large families to the Naples and Ft. Myers area.
