"Civil War Veteran...Grand Army of the Republic.
Ackley, John, from Hudson, Michigan. Enlisted in Company F, Fourth Mich. Infantry, June 20, 1861, at Adrian, Michigan for 3 years, age 23. Height 5'6 ½". Complexion dark. Eyes blue. Hair black. Cabinet and Chair maker by trade. Mustered June 20, 1861. Wounded in action July 1, 1862 in thigh. Died August 6, 1862, of wounds received in battle of Malvern Hill, Virginia, July 1, 1862. Buried in National Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York, Grave No. 312. Born in Ohio."
