United States Army Officer. A long time member of the New Jersey National Guard, he served as Major of the 3rd New Jersey Infantry during the Spanish-American War. During World War I he was commissioned as Colonel in the United States Army, and was given command of the 114th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Brigadier General, NJNG in 1933.

From 1881 until his death in 1934, he was the commandant of the Bordentown Military Institute.
