Sarah Odell was the daughter of David Witt Burkhalter and Nancy Ann Louise Walker Odell. She was born in Bowie County, Texas. She married John Wilson Odell about 1872. They were parents of eight (or nine) children. She died in Tatum, New Mexico, at the home of her daughter Lula Simpson.
