Joseph Lutter, 76, passed away peacefully in his home in Tomah, Wisconsin on July 18, 2023 after a long illness.

Joseph was born on March 22, 1947 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Peter and Mary (Kilsdonk) Lutter. At five years old, Joseph moved with his family to Hopkins, Minnesota where he attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Hopkins High in 1965. After graduating, Joseph enlisted in the Army, serving three tours in Vietnam, and leaving the Army in 1973 with the rank of Sergeant First Class with medals including the Bronze Star and two awards of the Army Commendation Medal.

Upon release from the Army, Joseph began an apprenticeship in cabinet making, which evolved into a career in woodcarving. Joseph's most notable creations include "Wood Spirits", or whimsical faces carved in varieties of wood and stone, and carousel horses, for which he gained national media attention.

Joseph found purpose and joy in the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, devoting much of his time later in life to meditation.
