Reed was tall, slender, grey eyes and dark hair in 1918 (42 yo) according to his registration.
Reed had this big truck that was covered in the back (you can see it in the picture) and he would drive along the road to the fields, and pick up men and women along the way. At the end of the day, they loaded back up and jumped off when he slowed down at their place. This was the only transportation for many families to get to work to make a living.
I remember goin' there when I was young, and they were on a party line. You could pick up the telephone and listen to the indians talk cherokee. Had no idea what they were saying. I'd just listen a minute :) Kids now have no idea what a party line even was. Or that you actually had to stay right next to the phone to talk to someone. LOL

There was a time when names of at least two of Sallisaw's attorneys were like household words in homes of the Belfonte or Nicut areas. Fred Green and R.O. Ingle, who either appeared in roles of prosecutor or defense in the noted Justice of the Peace Reed Seaton's court.
Last logs of the old landmark home of Reed Seaton are no more, and maybe even very little of the homes foundation. Real old-timers recall plainly those days when Justice of the Peace Court was held in the shade near the cabin, with R.O. Ingle or Fred Green, both of Sallisaw, practicing law.
Reed Seaton's daughter Cordia who runs a store named in her honor, just a short distance over the mountain where the landmark home once stood, can tell anyone all about it.
In her talk it's easy to visualize about how it was in the old days, with the County Seat of Sallisaw difficult to reach by the slow ways of buggy or horseback travel.
Once, there where State Highway 101 so beautifully rounds the bends, travelers along what was then an old wagon track, reaching the Reed Seaton place after a fairly long drive from the Liberty or Long areas was sure a mighty welcome place on a hot summer day to draw a cool drink of water from the Seaton well. Or just lounge around on stumps or benches to listen to the marvelous oratory of practicing attorneys from that then distant city of Sallisaw as they made pitches either in prosecution or defense of someone who had been brought by court stables to the J.P. Court because of some infraction of the "long arm of the law" Cordia said from behind the counter of her grocery store.
Even the name "Seaton Mountain" has been miscalled, many times as Eagle Mountain," she said. But "Eagle Mountain" is on to the north quite a ways, just south of the Old Belfonte Church.
