According to family history William Eakin was ambushed and killed by Indians while on his way to a mill near the falls of the Ohio River at Beargrass Station (present-day 8th and Main Streets in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky), His death was witnessed by John Floyd who wrote in his journal that it occurred in the year 1780.
