0. W. BRUNDAGE DIES IN STREET
Stroke of Apoplexy Ends Life of Well-Known Kalamazoo Resident.
Ozial W. Brundage, 66 years old, a well-known and longtime resident of Kalamazoo, dropped dead shortly before 8 o'clock Thursday morning at East Paterson street and Krum avenue. A stroke of apoplexy is believed to have been the cause of death. Mr. Brundage, though he had complained of not feeling wel for the past two-weeks, left home after breakfast Thursday morning to look over some houses owned by him on Krum avenue and which he intended to repair. He was returning to his home when taken by death. The stricken man had just turned off Krum avenue onto East Paterson street when he was seen to stagger. He attempted to enter the J. Longhead & Son grocery story, when he dropped dead on the side-walk. The police and sheriff's office was immediately notified and Coroner Douwe Roskam. His son Ray Brundage, was also notified and went immediately to the scene of the sudden death. Dr. Benjamin Nibbelink, was also called but pronounced Mr. Brundage dead. The body, was removed to the G. P. Truesdaie undertaking rooms where the remains were viewed by, the coroner. No inquest was deemed necessary.
O. W. Brundage was born at Greenville, Mich., June 20, 1853. He came to Kalamazoo with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Brundage, in 1861 where he has since lived. For the past 40 years he has been engaged in the real estate and general contracting business. He built the first house on Eleanor street west of West street and had lived in his present home, 520 Eleanor street, for the past 35 years.
Prominent Lodgeman
He was a member of the Blue lodge, Chapter and Commandry, joining the Masonic order more than 25 years ago. He was also chairman of the official board of the First M. E. church. Mr. Brundage is survived, by the widow, four sons, Ray O. and Homer B. of Kalamazoo, Guy W. of Auburn, California. and Harry L, of Grand Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. F. S. Delano and Mrs. Stephen Machin, Kalamazoo: Mrs., Ernest Robinson, Plainwell and Mrs. Frank Vorhees, Gobleville, also five brothers, V. A. Chicago: W. C., Duluth, Minn.; P. J. Brundage, Charles Brundage, Kalamazoo and Clarence Brundage of GoblevIlle. The funeral announcement will be made later. Kalamazoo Gazette March 28, 1918 page 1
