In 1961 Robert married Jean Cage Wirtz and her son, Roger Stephenson Wirtz. They were married 57 years. Their life together took them all over the world while Robert worked as a senior staff paleontologist for Exxon Mobil and Aramco in Saudi Arabia. When Robert retired in 1992 they moved home to Beauregard, MS, and later to Flowood, MS to be with their family. Robert continued to be a member of Beauregard United Methodist Church.
Robert was known as "Mr. Bob" to many who crossed his path in his later years as he worked the horse farm at Serenity Acres with his son, Roger. All those at the farm knew "Mr. Bob" as kind, caring, and helpful. His granddaughter, Rachel and her husband, Patrick moved to the farm with their son, his namesake, Robert a few years ago. With his family so close, these last years were fulfilling for Robert. He was an amazing Christian man and was loved by all. Robert was an outstanding and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and father-in-law. He will be greatly missed. Bob fought the good fight and is now with our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Jimmy Hennington and his loving wife Jean Hennington of 57 years. Survivors are his son, Dr. Roger Wirtz and his wife, Pamela Louis Wirtz of Jackson, MS, granddaughter, Rachel Wirtz Salem; her husband George Patrick Salem and great grandson, Robert Wirtz Salem of Flowood, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Hennington's name may be made to Beauregard Methodist Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
