Douglas Walter Ballou was born on December 23, 1955 to Ruth and Lynn Ballou in Lawton, OK. He overcame a difficult childhood and graduated Salutatorian from Elgin High School in 1974. While working a full-time job, he attended Cameron University and obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company from 1979 until 2008.
He married * in 1980. Doug designed and built his home with her in the Lake Lawtonka area, where they raised three children: ***. They built a wonderful life together for many years.
Doug was on the Elgin Public Schools school board for 10 years. He enjoyed attending auctions, garage sales, and estate sales. He was a skilled handyman and was a dependable citizen and husband. In his later years, mental illness overcame Doug.
He passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 in a nearby nursing home at the age of 66. His children want to honor his life by requesting your support of mental health laws and policies.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Ruth Ballou-Koetter; his father: Lynn Ballou; a step-father: Lawrence Koetter; his daughter: Stephanie; and his sister: Beverly Davidson. He is survived by his son, daughter and son-in-law, a brother, two grandsons; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. There will be no memorial services.
