Doug was on the Elgin Public Schools school board for 10 years. He enjoyed attending auctions, garage sales, and estate sales. He was a skilled handyman and was a dependable citizen and husband. In his later years, mental illness overcame Doug.
He passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 in a nearby nursing home at the age of 66. His children want to honor his life by requesting your support of mental health laws and policies.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Ruth Ballou-Koetter; his father: Lynn Ballou; a step-father: Lawrence Koetter; his daughter: Stephanie; and his sister: Beverly Davidson. He is survived by his son, daughter and son-in-law, a brother, two grandsons; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. There will be no memorial services.
