Beloved MotherPauline Joan Bruner, a long-time resident of Ottumwa, who returned to Downing, Missouri, in 1987, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, just three days after her 82nd birthday.

The only child of Paul Rowe and Bertha May (Fincher) Cook, Pauline was born April 26, 1929, in Downing, in the same house she presently called her home. She graduated with the Class of 1947, Downing High School. On August 22, 1948, in Lancaster, Missouri, Pauline was united in marriage to Robert Lewis Bruner, and to this union five children were born: Gene, Pauletta, Rodney Max, Rod, and Kim.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Bruner of Downing and her children: Gene Bruner of Downing; Pauletta (Max) Marlin of Fremont, Iowa; Rod (Mavis) Bruner of Eddyville, Iowa; and Kim (Jacque) Bruner of Oskaloosa, Iowa; five grandchildren: Eric Walker of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Rob (Tanya) and son Robert "Roberto" Walker of Albuquerque; Bill Bruner of Des Moines, Iowa; Micah (Nicci) and daughters Piama Bruner, and Taina Bruner, born April 25th, of Galesburg, Illinois; and Hilary Bruner of Eddyville, Iowa. Brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces- and nephews-in-law, along with cousins of many generations also survive.

Pauline is preceded in death by her father in 1966 and her mother in 1994, and infant son, Rodney Max Bruner in 1952.

She was very devoted to her family and will be remembered by many for the impact she had on their lives, and the amazing example she set, especially for her children and grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 1:00 PM at the Downing Christian Church, Downing, Missouri, with Larry Smith, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist Betty Anderson will provide music and soloist Hilary Bruner will present a special music selection "In The Garden." Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Schuyler County Nutrition Site, PO Box 102, Lancaster, Missouri, 63548-0102, and Downing Appreciation Days Association, PO Box 193, Downing, MO, 63536-0193. Burial will be in the Downing City Cemetery at a later date as the body has been cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing.
