Son of Max and Laney Gandy. Named for our 9th president. Harrison grew up in Thomas County, Georgia where he married 28 October 1860 to Mary Jane Jamerson. When war broke out he traveled with his brothers to Savannah, Chatham County,Georgia where on May 15, 1862 he enlisted as a private with the 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company E, "Thomas County Rangers", Confederate States Army. Two months later on July 17, 1862, Major General John C. Pemberton sent the 50th Georgia Volunteers to Richmond to join the Army of Northern Virginia under its commanding general, Robert E. Lee. A year later, after being wounded at Gettysburg Harrison died in a hospital at Richmond, Virginia, 20 July 1863.
