Bertha Mae or Edna Mae (depending on the records you find) was the daughter of Albert Eugene "Bert" Tyler and his wife, Anna Landon.

She is seen as "Edna" in the 1920 Census for Lapeer, Michigan. In 1928, her father died when he was hit by a train in his car. Her mother went to the Michigan Home and Training School in Elba, Lapeer Co, MI as an Inmate (her and her sister were considered "feeble-minded"). Edna is living with the Charles and Grace Scott family in Genesee County, Michigan (Age 14 - b 1916). Her sister and brother (Hazel Age 12 and Emery Age 10) are in the Oakland County Detention Home in Oakland County, MI.

Then, on 9 Nov 1930, Edna Tyler would marry Aldis Milton Marr and they had two sons, David Marr (1931) and Eugene Duane Marr (1933).

On 7 Feb 1940, Aldis and Edna divorced in Lapeer County, Michigan. Aldis is seen living with his mother, Muriel (Minnie ?) in the April 15, 1940 Census. He is shown as "single" and there are no children living with him.

On 3 Aug 1940, Edna - now calling herself "Bertha May" - married William Sholes in Oxford, Oakland Co, MI. (Record below)

Interestingly, a newspaper item is found in the "Detroit Evening News" (Detroit, MI) from Sunday, 4 Jun 1944.
"Mrs Bertha Mae Sholes, 31 (b 1913), of Oxford, MI, today is held for the federal grand jury after pleading quilty before U.S. Commisioiner J Stanley Hurd to violating the Servicemen's Dependents Allowance Act.

According to Robert A Guerin, FBI Chief here (Detroit, MI), Mrs Sholes drew $200 in allotments from Pvt Owen Darling, whom she married on Dec 11, 1943 in Fort Lewis, Washington, without having divorced her previous husband, William Sholes. She married Sholes in 1938."

On 9 Oct 1944, in Oakland County, MI, William and Bertha Mae Sholes (William is the "Plaintiff" and indicated "Extreme and Repeated Cruelty") were divorced and William would remarry.
