--Mary Ann was a daughter of Benjamin F. Beam and wife Sarah Mae Hamell. She grew up in Kings Mountain. She graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1957, where she was on the girls' basketball team and the county All Star Team. She was also in the National Honor Society and was the May Court Queen. She then attended Limestone College.
--She married Palmer E. Huffstetler on August 9, 1958. They lived in Winston-Salem for 3 years while he attended law school. Mary Ann worked as the Secretary to the Admissions Director of Wake Forest. The couple later lived in Kings Mountain, Orlando, Raleigh, and then settled in Cherryville in 1964. They were parents of 3 sons: Palmer, Jr., Ben, and Tad. They had 3 grandchildren.
--Member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville, where Mary Ann had been in the choir, taught Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible School and served on the Sanctuary Committee when the new building was built.
