Mrs. Virgie A. Claeys, 81, of 2500 Topsfield Dr., died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital after a two-month illness. She was born Feb. 21, 1890, in South Bend and lived here all her life. She was married Oct. 2, 1912, in South Bend to Jerome C. Claeys who died in 1968. Her husband was the founder of the Claeys Candy Co. in South Bend.

Surviving are two sons, Jerome F. and Don. H., both of South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Schultz of South Bend and Mrs. Earl Murphy of Redding, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Rev. F. Thomas Lallak, assistant pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Mausoleum. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Child Society.
