From familysearch.org:
As a child I have memories of Uncle Ervin spending much time sitting on the back porch of Grandma's house across the lane. He was mentally retarded. He shouted at the pests that bothered him and the shouting could be heard throughout the neighborhood. I reflect on these experiences as a lesson to me of tolerance, understanding, and love for those who suffer from these maladies. My mother cared for him to support Grandma. When Grandma Allred passed away Ervin was placed in a care facility in Salt Lake City where he lived until his passing.
