Death Claims John Bozarth, Pioneer;
Burial Set Thursday
John Asa Bozarth, aged 94, pioneer of Yavapai county, where he resided for more than 70 years, died yesterday afternoon at the family home, 208 North McCormick street. He had been in failing health for some time. / Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Lester Ruffner Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Charles Franklin Parker officiating. / Services will be followed by interment in the family plot in Mountain View cemetery. / Mr. Bozarth, who was born August 15, 1842, in Rochester, Indiana, drove a mule team wagon from Dodge City, Kansas, to Prescott when he was 24 years old. He set out from Dodge City with a New York banker, Joshua Hill, bound for California, but the party had grown to 16 by the time they reached Prescott, where he and several others remained. Among them was the late J. W. Steward, who established the Cross Triangle ranch in Williamson Valley, locale of Harold Bell Wright's novel, "When a Man's a Man." / With William Shook, Mr. Bozarth founded a ranch on Walnut creek and later managed several Yavapai county ranches and at one time operated a general merchandise store at Wickenburg. / He is survived by three sons and a daughter: Orville, of Prescott, sheriff elect of Yavapai county; Asa, of Seligman; Waldo, of Kingsman; Mrs. E. H. Richardson, of Phoenix. There are several grandchildren.

VPB Note: John Asa Bozarth, the son of Asa Shinn Bozarth and Sarah Ann Spencer, was born on August 15, 1852 in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana. His date of birth in 1842 given in the obituary is probably a typo. John's paternal grandparents were John Bozarth, III and Anna Reger. His maternal grandparents were William N. and Mary (Unknown) Spencer.
