Thad was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to the late William B. and Chessie (McCarty) Sharp. In 1933, he married Eugenia Vosburg and moved to Houston and later Kerrville where he was a sales representative for Sherwin Williams. In 1967 Thad earned the professional honor of "Man of the Year," Waco Territory with Southwestern Life Insurance Company. Because of his sales as an insurance salesman, he was able to earn trips throughout the United States, Quebec, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Thailand. A family trip to London, England, taken at Christmas one year provided many happy memories.
At the ages of nine, both Thad and his son, Bill, had infantile paralysis, but thankfully survived. Thad's Waco experiences of a lifetime include sharing a Waco barber with bank robber, Clyde Barrow, as a youth, coaching the Central Christian Church basketball team, helping his son in rescue efforts on Austin Avenue after the 1953 killer tornado, and joining his son at Fidelis Masonic Lodge No. 1127 as a member.
He went on charter flights with Bill and an Austin couple to see Texas win Rose Bowl games against Michigan and USC in 1995 and 1996, the last netting a national championship. Wanting to avoid total one-sidedness, in 2005, Thad flew on a Baylor charter with members of the Grant Teaff family to Indianapolis to watch the Baylor women win the national championship in basketball. Thad was a gentle man of distinction, a loving husband and father whose ambitions focused on supporting the well being of the ones he loved and honoring his Savior with unstinting service which included delivering Meals on Wheels into his 90s. His loving touch included a constant vigil at his Eugenia's bedside in December of 1999 as she failed to survive a 20-day coma, and concerns over his son's struggle after setbacks in a fight with diabetes. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Eugenia Sharp on Dec. 18, 1999; brother, Frank Sharp; and sister, Willa Bennett.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are son, Bill Sharp, of Waco; nephew, Judge George Allen and wife, Jane, of Waco; and friend, Maxine Faubion, of Waco.
