Mary Joy was born in Macon, MS, on September 1, 1936, to Davis G. and Stella Gully Wylie. Her family moved to Picayune in 1941 and she graduated from Picayune Memorial High School in 1954.
She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of First United Methodist Church in Picayune. She was an active member of the Pearl River County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Emerson Jopes and her parents, Davis G. and Stella Gully Wylie.
Survivors include: her children Paul W. Cooper and wife Roxie, Anna Cooper Cash and husband Steve, Amy Cooper Frierson and husband Randy, Samuel C. Jopes and wife Linda, Lisa Jopes Subat and husband Steve; and numerous grandchildren.
