She was born on September 12, 1924 in Washington County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Cornelius Grooms and the late Mrs. Leary Lattimore Grooms. She was affectionately known as Ma, Grandma and Mother Merrell
Mrs. Merrell married the late Mr. A.L. Samuel Merrell and became a homemaker. Together they reared ten children and several grandchildren. While taking pride in being a great mother and grandmother, she found time to be active in the church, sing in the choir and do one of the things that she took pride in most, planting flowers for every season.
She is preceded in death by two sisters: Ms. Mary A. Darrisaw, Ms. Vinnie L. Smith; one brother: Mr. Bobby L. Grooms and one grandson: Mr. Derrick Merrell.
