Lura Carolyn Burge passed away on July 30, 2023. She was born on August 1, 1937, to William Lee and Lura Agnes Dickerson. She graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 1955 and received a degree in accounting from Blue Mountain College in 1959. She worked as a secretary at First Baptist Church in Memphis and later as a bookkeeper at Empire Gas in Blue Mountain, MS.

As we reflect on her life, we remember a kind, loving person who was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also an outstanding cook and loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Many of us fondly remember the Christmas tree cakes she lovingly prepared for many years.

She also loved animals and took care of many cats and dogs over the years. Gardening was another favorite activity and she spent many days working in flower beds. She enjoyed music and was an Elvis Presley fan. She also enjoyed classic movies, with Gone with the Wind being one of her favorites.

Carolyn was a member of Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church and showed her faith through service to others. She loved her family deeply and spent many years taking care of her parents and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers William Lee Dickerson, Jr. and James Dickerson. She leaves two sons, Jere Wilkerson of Blue Mountain and Lynn Burge (Rita) of Potts Camp; two grandsons, Brent Burge (Kristan) of Oxford and Adam Burge of Ripley; one great-granddaughter, Adlee Burge. She also leaves one brother Robert Dickerson (Betty) of Memphis; a brother-in-law,
Edward Burge of Blue Mountain, MS.

Services to honor her life will be held at McBride Funeral Home in Ripley, MS, with Brother Randy Bynum officiating. She will be interred at Blue Mountain Cemetery at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Burge, Brent Burge, Adam Burge, Carey Dickerson, Billy Dickerson, Micah Miller, Tommy Frank and Steve Rodgers.
