He was born in Peoria, Illinois, on May 4, 1915, the son of the late Mary Anna (Hoexter) and William Pier. He was a veteran of the European Theatre during WWII. Following retirement from his 28-year military career in the U.S Army, Mr. Pier worked for Civil Service in the Procurement Office at Dyess AFB. He resided in Abilene since 1962. Mr. Pier served his church, Zion Lutheran, as a Council Member and Trustee. He was an avid bridge player and bowler.
He married Dorothy Mae Stevens at Camp Salina, Kansas, in 1943. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1997.
He was the beloved father of three sons and daughters-in-law, William Steven and Ann Pier of Cincinnati, Ohio, Daniel Joseph and Vikki Pier of Colleyville, Texas, and Edward Karl and Nancy Pier of Buda, Texas. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Kimberly Evans and husband, Gary, Steven Pier, Nicholas Pier, and Christopher Pier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Entombment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
