She moved with her family to California in 1870 and married Howard James Fowler in Selma, California in 1882. Together they had three children, twin boys George and Edward and a daughter Carrie Helen Fowler, married to Jack Wagner.
Carrie and Howard divorced and Carrie moved to San Jose, California where she taught at Grant School until she retired. Her father and mother lived with her until their deaths.
Carrie was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the First Presbyterian Church of San Jose. She passed away at 88 years old, the mother of three, grandmother of three and great grandmother of two.
