Baley Traweek was the son of Spencer and Margaret Kinney Traweek. He married Sarah Farquhar on February 7, 1850, in Fayette County, Alabama, and they were the parents of eleven children; Louvenia, James Spencer, Zue Frances, Stephen Thomas, Mary, Robert Alexander, Jett, Flora Margaret, Elias, Eppie and Bertha Mae Traweek. Baley and his family were among those from Fayette County, Alabama, who settled in Burnet County in 1853.

Baley Traweek was a descendant of Lunsford and Martha Seger Traweek (Trawick) of North Carolina. His name is also seen as Baily and Bailey.
