David Antonio John Cataffo
October 20, 1928- July 23, 2023
In Trenton, Ontario with loving family at his side.

Resting in the arms of his Savior at long last.

David Antonio Cataffo was born on October 20, 1928 in Mount Vernon, NY to Antonio and Eveline (May) Cataffo. His father was an Italian chef and family was very important to him.

David served his country in the US Marine Corps specializing in water safety. He was a lifeguard, swimming instructor and he assisted wounded military personnel in their recovery by means of water therapy.

He met the love of his life, Meredith Ward of Fair Bluff, at Camp Lejune Marine Corps base in North Carolina at a New Year's Eve dance. He said she "looked like an angel" and they loved dancing to big band music. They were married in Rosedale, NY on Aug. 7, 1948 and raised a family in Bellmore, NY. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before her passing on May 8, 2021. We are certain they are happily dancing together again in heaven.

They immigrated to his ancestral lands inherited from his grandparents, Daniel and Laura May, in Cordova, Ontario in 1976 fulfilling his dream of living in the beautiful country.

As a young man David joined his mother in the Upholstery/Interior decorating trade and was a successful businessman in both New York and Canada. He had a keen eye for detail and beauty and was a true craftsman.

He loved fishing (always hoping to "catch a big one"), woodworking (he built his own saw mill) and inventing things, imagining "a better way" to do something. He was a good steward of his land and was dedicated to the conservation of natural areas.

Please spend some time in a peaceful place and enjoy a good cup of tea and a simple peanut butter sandwich while thinking of him.

David is survived by his daughters Catherine Cataffo, Susan Cataffo-Heiland (Scott) and Dana Rollwage (Douglas). He is predeceased by his daughter Judith Aine Havrilla (Alfred), grandson Jesse and brother Robert Upson.
He is also survived by a sister, Laura Bard, two sister-in-laws Faye Ward and Maria Ward, nieces and nephews and the richness of an extended family.
He has nine grandchildren; Jennifer, Amanda (Keith), Annabelle, Melissa (Brian), Dameon (Rachel), Liam (Anna), Hannah (Rory) and Jacob (Ellen). He has five great-grandchildren; Ainsley, Rohan, Sage, Aoife and Maeve. He was so very proud of all of them and they brought him great joy.

Heartfelt thanks to his pal Monica and also the staff at Trent Valley Lodge, Trenton for their supportive care and kindness.

A private graveside committal service will be held in the Marmora Common Cemetery with a celebration of his life at a later date.

Family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Food Grains Bank in his memory.
