George enlisted in the Civil War 14 Aug 1863. He mustered in the same day in Company C, 126th Ohio Infantry. On 06 May 1864 at Wilderness, VA he was wounded, but returned to duty and was mustered out of the service in Washington, D. C. on 03 Jul 1865.

He was married to Martha Henry, daughter of Nicholas and Mary Thompson Henry, on 20 June 1866, in Harrison County, Ohio. They were the parents of 3 known daughters, Laura Bell, Sarah E, and Susan Anne, all three girls dying from diphtheria within a 3 week period from 22 Dec 1875 to 14 Jan 1876. Another child, a son Oscar, may have been adopted as he was born in 1874, but is not listed with them in the 1880 census.

They also raised their grandchild, Nellie Grace Hendershot, daughter of Ida B who was probably a child of an earlier marriage of George as Ida was age 10 in the 1870 census. No first wife has been identified. Ida appears in the 1880 census living with the family and her daughter Grace, but disappears after 1880.

George was buried 03 Feb 1897 and is the only known Boling to be buried in this cemetery. However, Oscar, in his will dated June 1827, left $300 in trust for the yearly maintenance of Longview cemetery. Martha died in 1919, but there is no indication as to where she was buried. It seems likely that she is buried here and possibly the three daughters who died earlier.
