The son of Michael A. and Mary Jane (Roach) Healy, who were born in Jones County, GA and Boston, MA respectively and married at Boston on Jan. 31, 1865. His father, the son of a plantation owner and a biracial mother still, by Georgia law, held in bondage, achieved a fair amount of fame as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard and Revenue Cutter service. John was born and died the same day at 13 Beacon St., Boston due to "Infantile," a form of paralysis. He was one of 18 pregnancies undergone by his mother Mary Jane. Of those pregnancies only one child lived past infancy.
