Oscar Warren Allum, age 87, of Burke, South Dakota died February 2, 2008 at Covington Heights Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Oscar was born May 5, 1920 in Herrick, South Dakota to Bob and Amy Allum. He attended elementary school in the country and graduated from Burke High School in 1937.

Oscar entered into the Army in 1942 where he was stationed in the Persian Gulf for 3 years. On February 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Irene Elaine Mayer and together they raised 2 sons and 3 daughters on their farm south of Burke. One of Oscar's great loves was living and working on the farm where many cherished memories were created. Oscar appreciated time with his friends and family over the years and particularly liked being around his grandchildren. Even as a resident in the nursing home and there were children around, it would bring laughter and a smile to his face.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Amy and Bob; his brother, Calvin; and his mother-in-law, Marie Faul. Oscar is survived by his wife, Irene, and their children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grand children. He is also survived by his sisters Iris Allum of Burke, SD and Genevieve Miller of Winner, SD.

To honor Oscar's wishes, funeral services will be held in the Spring and announced closer to that time.
