BARNES Bertie William Sapper 164250. 129th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Died of wounds home 5th June 1917, aged 24 years. Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Barnes, of 11, Cannon Street, Louth, Lincs. Born Saleby, Lincs and enlisted Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland. Commemorated SALEBY (ST MARGARET) CHURCHYARD
. In remembrance of our dear brother, Sapper B. W. Barnes, who died of wounds received in action June 7th 1917.
If they who caused this cruel war,
Were the only men to fight,
This world would be far brighter
And less aching hearts to-night.
