Born April 9, 1938 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Lee Grindstaff and Nellie Pittman Grindstaff.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. James was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Belle Pittman.
He is survived by:
Wife of 63 years: Nina Grindstaff of the home
Son: Greg Grindstaff (Kellie) of Conover
Granddaughter: Lacie Heather Grindstaff of Conover
The funeral service will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Dr. Ed Yount and Dr. Tim Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
