Dr. Harry H. Hanshaw, DVM, age 78, of Manor Care Health, Lebanon, PA, formerly of Palmyra, PA died Saturday, September 28, 2002, in Manor Care Health Services. He was born August 11, 1924, Hershey, PA, to the late Harry and Mamie Winters Hanshaw. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, entering in January 1943 and was discharged in February 1946. He retired as a Veterinarian for Small and Large Animals in Palmyra for 30 + years; he also bred, raised and raced Standard Bred horses for many years. He raced them primarily at Pocono Downs Race Course. He was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra; a graduate of Swatara Township High School, Class of 1942; Lebanon Valley College, Class of 1948; he married Nancy L. Bowman in 1950; University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, 1952 and a former member of the Palmyra Board of Health for many years. Surviving are Nancy L. (Bowman) Hanshaw, Palmyra, PA; 4 daughters, Rebecca H., wife of Donald Bixler, Palmyra, PA, Jennifer, wife of Sean Hackett, Palmyra, PA, Dr. Nanette Hanshaw Roberts, DVM, wife of Dr. John Roberts, DVM, Palmyra, PA, Deborah L., wife of Jerry Steiner, Stephens City, VA; 2 brothers, Malcolm Hanshaw, CA, Stanley Hanshaw, AZ; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at 10: 30 a.m. in the Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Pine Street, Palmyra, PA, with the Rev. Kenneth E. Buckwalter, officiating. Viewing will be from 9: 30 - 10: 30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, N. Londonderry Twp., Lebanon Co.
