Walter Louis Althaus, 82, died on September 17, 1983 at the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, Arizona.

He was born in Brady City in McCulloch County, Texas on October 6th, 1900 to Louis and Dorothea Elizabeth "Dora" (Quindel) Althaus. He had two brothers, Edwin and Harry, and two sisters, Freida, and Mary.

In February of 1935, Walter and Letha Beatrice Bigelow were married and they made their home in Bisbee.

Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the completion of his military service, he began a career with the mining operation, Phelps Dodge in South Bisbee. A son, David A. Althaus, was soon welcomed.

Walter is survived by his wife who resides in Bisbee, his son, David of Phoenix; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Bisbee, with burial in the McNeal Cemetery. Pallbearers were David A. Althaus, Mike Radonovich, Bennie Scott, George Morin, Gerald Hisey and Steve Soles.
