Termaine L. Deveaux 80, Alder Point

Tremaine Lloyd Deveaux, 80, of 496 Alder Point, passed away quietly Dec. 23, 2001, with his family at his bedside. Born in Alder Point, he was the son of the late Howard and Agnes (Dugas) Deveaux.

Tremaine served as a private overseas in the army in the Second World War, where he was wounded a few times in action. In his early years he was a fisherman and hauled coal. He retired in 1975 from C.N. where he was a steward on the ferry William Carson.

Tremaine was a member of St. Anne's Church, Alder Point, a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Club, Amherst, Nova Scotia, a life member of Florence Legion, Branch 83, a member of the Bras d'Or Senior Citizens Club and a member of the Seniors Dart League. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good game of poker and 45s and going to the casino. He found relaxing moments viewing sports and watching the history channel.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 53 years Marguerite (Margie Arsenault) and his nine children, three sons, Terry (Miriam), Bras d'Or, Owen (Isaline), Alder Point, Blair (Lucy), Florence; six daughters, Charlina (George MacLeod), Alder Point, Jean (Jack Mullin), Bras d'Or, Agnes (Les Gerrow), Bras d'Or, Anne Marie (Bryan Stapleton), Peachland, B.C., Elaine (Jack Cousins), Sydney Mines, Michelle (Allen Hann), Westmount. He leaves behind 18 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Shauna, Cindy, Geneva, G.R., Ken, Stephen, Curtis, Jeff, Danielle, John Ryan, Corey, B.J., Jason, Jana, Erica, A.J., Theodore, Blake, Kyle and Cory. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Deveaux, Montreal; a brother, Henry Deveaux, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Virginia; brothers, William, Ivan, Roy, Harold, Simon, Clarence and James.

Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at G.R. Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Church, Alder Point, Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bras d'Or.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Department, Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Department of Veterans Affairs, Sydney Branch.
