Norma Jean Spann Arnold Shelton, age 90, of Dickson, TN left us on Saturday, July 16, 2023 following a brief illness at the NHC of Cool Springs, Franklin, TN.

She was a lifelong resident of Dickson County, daughter of the late Bee and Edna Earls Spann.
Norma Jean was an avid bridge player who played bridge weekly for over 50 years until death disbanded this adventurous group of ladies of varying backgrounds and their husbands and partners. Norma Jean was also an avid traveler and enjoyed many days, sunsets, and nights on the Tennessee River near Waverly, Tennessee. She was part owner with her late husband, Jimmy, of a longtime Main Street business, Arnold's Clothing, which opened in 1905.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmy Arnold and Louis Shelton; and by her siblings, Elizabeth Shelton and Mary Lou (Billy) Larkins.

During her life she unselfishly sought, assisted, mentored, and supported a broad range of young people, including the sales associates employed at the Arnold's Store. The betterment of the young people was her paramount objective as they moved on with their own future lives, families, and careers.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Dickson where she attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her sons, Richard (Terry) Arnold and William (Karen) Arnold; her grandchildren, Caroline, Tripp (James Richard Arnold III), and John (Kara); her first great grandchild, Andi Opal Arnold. Also surviving are her step granddaughter. Amy (Brian) Benefield and their three children, Jack, Luke, and Libby; her siblings, Vera Hooper, Verna (Donald) Foster, Jerry Spann, and Kathy (Larry) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will assemble at the graveside at the Dickson Union Cemetery on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, for graveside funeral services. Rev. Ed White will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. For those that cannot attend graveside on Wednesday, there will be a brief prayer service on Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., with visitation continuing afterwards. Place of rest will be in the Dickson Union Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home, 615-446-2808. TaylorSince1909.com.
