Carol attended school in Cortez, CO, graduating from Montezuma County High School in 1962. She also attended Adams State College for a year. She married Tom Thomas on December 28, 1963, and they were happily married for 59 years. She is survived by her husband, Tom, of the family home in Golden, CO; children Lance Thomas and Tara Johnson, and Tara's husband Dale; grandchildren Kameron, Kyle, Tristan, and Jessie Johnson; as well as great-grandchildren Ariana, Koda, and Kastle Johnson; all living in the Denver metro area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Clay Romans of Cortez, CO.

Carol was a stockbroker and Certified Financial Planner. She worked several years at Charles Schwab and A.G. Edwards in the Denver area before retiring. She previously owned and operated Pacesetters, Pants 'N Things, and Carol's Wedding Shop, in Durango, CO, where the family resided from 1967 to 1991. She also lived in Cody, WY with her husband and son for three years before moving to Durango.

Carol enjoyed traveling, especially with her family. She was active in caring for and riding horses during her earlier years. For many years she was an avid genealogist, and wrote a number of books regarding the genealogical history and stories of predecessors of the combined families, with another book nearly finished and ready for publication.
